Prior to Arrival Checklist

Documentation*:

§      Provide stable manager documentation* showing horse has received and is current on the following vaccines:

§       Rabies — given once yearly

§       Tetanus/Encephalitis — given once yearly

§       Strangles/Strep — requires booster within one month after initial vaccination, yearly thereafter

§       Potomac Horse Fever — given spring and fall

§       Flu/Rhino — given every three months

§       West Nile — requires booster between three to six weeks after initial vaccination, spring and fall there after

§      Coggins Test pulled two (2) weeks prior to arrival. This allows enough time to provide STABLE with a negative result.

Written Explanation Of:

§      Current worming program including:

§       Anthelmintic names and dates administered

§       Duration of program

§       In the least, last worming date and product used

§      Feeding program at previous stable including:

§       Name/type of grain

§       How much grain and how often

§       Type of hay (alfalfa, grass, 50/50, 60/40)

§       How much hay and how often

§      Date teeth were checked and floated and by whom (vet or dental technician)

§      All pertinent insurance information (if insured)

§      All contractual paper work must be returned in original folder

§      Check made out to CIELO RANCH for first months board. Should horse arrive prior to the first of the month, include total number of days at the prorated amount.

§      Supplements and/or medications bagged and labeled with instructions for feeding (AM or PM)

§      A small amount of previously fed grain to slowly switch over to Strategy (optional and not necessary)

§      First Aid Box (at least started, with basics)

§      Notify your farrier that your horse has moved and set up a new appointment, if necessary. (Stable manager can recommend farrier).

 

* Documentation must be a print out showing name of vet, horse, vaccine and date given. If owner has been administering vaccines, documentation must be a receipt showing where vaccines were purchased, owner’s name, name of vaccine, quantity and date purchased. Should either form of documentation not be available for any reason, horse is behind or has never received a specific vaccine, owner may be required to repeat or provide any vaccination stable veterinarian deems necessary prior to arrival. Notify stable manager of correct vaccination status immediately.
